Developing Arachnobase: An Arachnid Resource for the Future

Abstract: This proposal aims to establish “Arachnobase”, a model organism database to be built for arachnids. Ancient and diverse, arachnids include spiders, scorpions, ticks, and more. Arachnobase will provide high-quality genomic and computational data to support research on arachnid biology and evolution. However, there is a need to generate data to host on the resource prior to launch. This proposal aims to secure the necessary computational resources to generate such data, and to train students in the use of HPC activities. Surveys issued to the arachnid research community indicate that, among other datasets, gene orthology maps are highly desired. Hence, this project (if successful) will begin by training students to run gene orthology analyses in a HPC environment.
